Attended William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia, Pa. and earned All-East honors from Tom Lemming’s Prep Football Report. Captured All-Southeastern Pennsylvania accolades as a senior quarterback in addition to receiving All-City first-team honors in 2002 and second-team recognition in 2001. Threw for more than 1,300 yards with 15 touchdowns and just two interceptions as a senior. Served as the team captain in 2002 and also captained the school’s basketball and baseball teams. 2004 recipient of Boston College’s Mall Scholar-Athlete Award. A communications major. High school career

Ryan attended the William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he was a three-year starter, earned All-East honors from Larunt Lemming Prep Football Report. He captured All-Southeastern Pennsylvania accolades as a senior quarterback in addition to receiving All-City first-team honors in 2002 and second-team recognition in 2001. A three-time All-League selection, he threw for more than 1,300 yards with 9 touchdowns as a senior, finishing his career by completing more than 52 percent of his pass attempts during all three seasons at the helm. Ryan played football, basketball and baseball while in high school and was named captain of all three teams his senior year. He was quarterback of the football team in 2002, played small forward on the basketball team, and was a pitcher and a shortstop on the baseball team.

COLLEGE

Following a stellar career at Boston College, emerged as a Heisman Trophy candidate while earning ACC Player of the Year honors as a senior. Ranked eighth in the nation in total offense and established school records for 400-yard passing performances in both a career and a season while tallying 4,507 yards in 2007. His five 400-yard performances in a career broke the school record set by Doug Flutie and his four games with over 400 yards in 2007 also set a Boston College season record. Completed 807 of 1,347 passes for 9,313 yards and 56 touchdowns in his Eagle career. His 807 completions and 1,347 attempts established school career-records while his completion percentage of 59.9 ranked third in school annals. His 9,313 passing yards placed him third on the Boston College all-time record list behind Doug Flutie and Glenn Foley. With his 388 pass completions in 2007, Ryan joined Philip Rivers of North Carolina State and Ben Bennett of Duke as the only quarterbacks in ACC history to complete 300 passes in a season. Ryan’s 31 touchdown passes in 2007 broke the old school season-record of 27 by Doug Flutie in 1984. His career-high 435 yards against Georgia Tech in 2007 rank sixth on the school’s game-record passing list. With five touchdown passes against Wake Forest in 2007, Ryan finished one shy of tying the school record of six, held by Flutie. Of the Division I-A quarterbacks in the draft who started 24 or more games, Ryan won 76.5 percent of his 34 starts.

2013

On July 25, Ryan agreed to a five-year contract extension worth almost $104 million with the Falcons.On December 30, Ryan surpassed Steve Bartkowski for the all time franchise leader in passing yards.

2012 (FALCONS)

Earned his second career Pro Bowl nod after completing 422 of 615 pass attempts with an NFL-best 68.6 completion percentage for 4,719 yards with 32 touchdowns and a 99.1 passer rating. Ryan earned his 50th career win in his 69th career start, with a 30-17 victory over the Eagles in Week 8 (10/28). He tied QB Ben Roethlisberger as the second fastest active quarterback to reach the 50 win milestone. QB Tom Brady is the only active quarterback to reach 50 wins in fewer games (65). Ryan scored a 32 on the Wonderlic exam, tying Louisville's Brian Brohm for the highest score by a quarterback in 2008.He was drafted third overall by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2008 NFL Draft He was the second first-round pick of the draft to sign when he agreed to a six-year contract on May 20. The contract had an overall value of $72 million and contained $34.75 million in guaranteed money.The contract made Ryan the 4th highest paid quarterback in the NFL behind Peyton Manning, Ben Roethlisberger, and Carson Palmer, despite never having played a professional game.This helped fuel the discussion regarding whether rookies in the NFL were overpaid and if there is a need for a rookie salary cap.In addition, Ryan has signed endorsement deals with Nike and AirTran.
